BiMBA Dean Lectures on Cognitive Biases to Yansha Alumni Association

On November 8, 2011, BiMBA Yansha Alumni Association gathered nearly 40 graduates at the Sanlitun head office of Jiamei Dental. BiMBA Dean Hu Dayuan and staff from BiMBA Alumni Affairs and Career Development participated in the event.

Before lunch, old classmates and new friends stood in groups remembering the study life, catching up with each other, and sharing their experience and new achievements.

After the lunch and at the conference room, Director Liu Changyan of Alumni Affairs and Career Development Department welcomed all and thanked the organizer.

Professor Hu Dayuan then lectured on the topic of “Cognitive Biases of Management Decisions”. “We have two cognition systems,” the Dean said. “The one helps us make response and judgment based on intuition, instinct, or experience; and the other leads us to rational thinking based on logic deduction. Although the first one produces an overall conclusion, what we need in modern society is an accurate instead of ambiguous answer. Professor Hu then analyzed in details the three most common biases in making management decisions as well as the ways to correct these biases and answered the questions raised by the audience.

The graduates found the lecture informative and inspiring. Some thanked Professor Hu and the organizer after the lecture and said they were looking forward to more alumni activities in near future.
