Biography

York is one of the most active venture capitalists in China for 18 years.  He initiated and set up iD TechVentures (IDT) operation in China in early 2000.   iDT VC, renamed from Acer Technology Ventures in 2005, focuses on early/expansion high tech and high growth investment in Greater China.  iDT manages four generations of offshore USD LP funds and two RMB funds registered in Suzhou and Chongqing, amounted to USD500M.

 

Termed by media as a “VC Evangelist” and “VC Scholar”, he unselfishly shares his deep observation and advice on China VC to the peer groups at home and abroad.  His Chinese book “China VC: 20 Years” highlights the fast development of VC and PE in China by profiling key players and twisting events.

 

York involves intensively in social enterprises and charity activities.  He is an Entrepreneur Mentor for Ministry of Science and Technology, AAMA and others.  On charity front, he launched Yanxing China in 2003, a student charity project to build up a family platform for students from remote rural area to learn, grow and adjust their new life smoothly in the cities.  The project is operating now in 12 universities in Beijing and Nanjing.

 

Before 2000, York was a board member of Singapore listed Acer Computer International Ltd.  He initiated, managed and oversaw more than 10 diversified national and JV operations spanning from Moscow to Auckland and from Seoul to Bangalore.  Before 1991, York was involved in Acer’s successful presence in Mexico and ex-Soviet Union markets.  He is the first Chinese to deliver a public speech in the Kremlin in May 1991 to some 2000 Russian political and industrial leaders.

 

Educational Background

He holds a B.S. from National Taiwan University, a MBA from Fordham University, and an EMBA from Peking University.
