Doctor of Professional Studies in Business (DPS)


The Doctor of Professional Studies in Business (DPS) degree is offered by the Gabelli School of Business at Fordham University in collaboration with Beijing International MBA at Peking University. The program is designed for experienced business professionals who aspire to become top executives, entrepreneurs, or business faculty in private or public corporations and universities.

 

The DPS program is a part-time program. Students are expected to work as senior executives before and during the program. The focus of it is the applied and practitioner-oriented research and teaching with solid theoretical foundations.

 

Students will complete 70 total credit hours for the DPS degree. In progressing toward the 70 total credit hours, students will complete 42 credit hours of semester-based coursework, consisting of 24 credit hours in core courses and additional 18 credit hours in specialized electives. In addition to the 42 credit hours of semester-based coursework, students will earn 28 credit hours in order to propose and defend a dissertation proposal, conduct research, and defend the dissertation in order to receive the DPS degree. 6 credits hours will be allocated to defend the dissertation proposal and 22 credit hours for the additional works that will be needed to complete the dissertation.

 

The DPS program comprises three areas of specialization: (1) a Strategy and Decision Making specialization, (2) a Capital Markets specialization, and (3) a Business Economics specialization. The normal duration of the program is expected to be 4 years. Students can graduate from it with (1) the completion of the program curriculum and the required credits with an average GPA being 3.0 or above and (2) a written dissertation approved by a doctoral dissertation committee.
