Lecture: The Toyota Way

Oct 26-2019

In the auto industry’s centennial long history, two companies have rightfully claimed an eponymous management model: Ford’s T Model and Toyota’s Lean Production. On October 25th, Mr. Kawada Makoto, leading researcher of the Toyota model and trailblazer of Japan’s Just-in-time (JIT) operation theory, will speak at PKU Cross-Cultural Leadership Forum upon the invitation of Prof. John Yang, NSD Jinguang Chair Professor and Co-Dean of BiMBA Business School.

His speech is entitled Toyota’s Management Essence and Inspiration for Chinese Enterprises. That might be just in time for the Chinese economy, which is in the process of replacing old growth drivers with new ones. As China doubles down on high-quality growth, much can be learned from Toyota’s Lean Production, global supply chain management and cross-cultural management.

At USD272.6 billion, Toyota ranks 10th on the 2019 Fortune 500 list and leads all automakers in net profit.

Dr. Zhao Chengli, student of Mr. Makoto and consultant on the Toyota model, will translate and share his thoughts on the prospect of Lean Production in China. Prof. John Yang will wrap up the event with summary and comments.

Time: 19:00, October 26th, 2019

Venue: 2nd Floor, Wanzhong Building, NSD, PKU
