About Lecturer

Prof. Yao Yang is Dean of the NSD, Dean of BiMBA Business School, PKU Bo Ya Distinguished Professor, Director of China Center for Economic Research, Executive Dean of the Institute of South-South Cooperation and Development, Editor-in-Chief of Economics (Quarterly), Director General of China Economics Annual Conference, Director General of National Economics Foundation, and member of Chinese Economy 50 Forum. He was presented with Sun Yefang Economic Science Award in 2008 and 2014, Pu Shan International Economics Award in 2008 and 2010, and Zhang Peigang Development Economics Award in 2008. He was voted Ten Best Teachers of PKU in 2006 and Ten Best Graduate Tutors of PKU in 2017.

 

Currently Prof. Yao focuses his research on new political economics and China’s economic growth in the context of opening up. In addition to publishing more than 100 academic papers in domestic and international journals, he has authored Institution and Efficiency – Dialogue with Douglass C. North (New Edition: Institution and Economic Growth: Conversation with New Institutional Economics ) ; Economic Reform as Institutional Innovation (in both Chinese and English); Development Economics ; and The Meaning of Economics . He has also co-authored A Dialogue on Institutional Analysis ; Our Times ; Meritocracy: Inspirations of Confucianism (to be published) ; and Ownership Transformation in China , among others. Moreover, he has published collections of essays: China and the West: A Pragmatic Confucian’s View; Freedom, Justice and Institutional Evolution ; Land, Institution, and Agricultural Development ; Global Implications of the Chinese Experience ; Between the Reality and the Study ; and Common Sense of Economy: Constants and Variables of Chinese Economy . He has edited China in Transition – Social Justice and Equity in Transformational Period ; and Forty Years of Chinese Economics . He has co-edited China 2049 ; Globalization and Economic Growth in China ; China’s Economic Reform and Growth; China’s New Narratives; and China’s Development Economics (to be published) . He has published over 100 articles and commentaries in Chinese and English media such as Nanfang Weekend, People’s Daily, Foreign Affairs, Financial Times and China Daily. He’s a Project Syndicate columnist.
