Dr. Tal Ben-Shahar

Dr. Tal Ben-Shahar is an internationally renowned teacher and author in the fields of happiness and leadership. After graduating from Harvard with a BA in Philosophy and Psychology and a PhD in Organizational Behavior, Tal taught two of the most popular courses in Harvard’s history: Positive Psychology and The Psychology of Leadership. He then taught Happiness Studies at Columbia University. A prolific writer, Tal's books have appeared on best-sellers lists around the world and have been translated into more than 30 languages.

Tal Ben-Shahar consults and lectures to executives in multinational corporations, educational institutions, and the general public. Topics include leadership, education, ethics, happiness, self-esteem, resilience, goal setting and mindfulness.

Dr. Tal Ben-Shahar is the co-founder of the Happiness Studies Academy, as well as the creator and instructor of the Certificate in Happiness Studies and the Happier School programs.

Tal is an avid sportsman and a certified yoga instructor whose work bridges Eastern and Western traditions, ancient wisdom and modern technology, science and art.

Professor John YANG is a Professor of Management at the National School of Development, Peking University, the Chair Professor of the Alumni School Development Fund, and a Special Advisor to the BiMBA Business School at Peking University. He is also an academic advisor to CHO100. His research focuses on organizational behavior, international leadership, and related fields. Based on Western management theories and methods, he combines these with China’s new phenomena and challenges, conducting research on the China strategies of multinational corporations and the internationalization of Chinese enterprises. He has published more than ten academic papers in leading international management journals and has created a column on cross-cultural management and leadership in major domestic business publications.

In teaching, Professor Yang's course "Self-Awareness and Leadership for Leaders" has been repeatedly praised by students as "the most rewarding course," "the most thought-provoking course," and "the most practical course." Professor Yang also leads the international study tour program at the National School of Development, Peking University. Over the years, he has guided students to over twenty countries and regions, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, India, etc.,. Through in-depth exploration of local history, culture, political systems, social organizations, and economic systems, he helps students reflect deeply on the rise and fall of these regions and draws valuable lessons for the development of Chinese enterprises and society.

The Cross-Cultural Leadership Forum, initiated by Professor John YANG from the National School of Development at Peking University in June 2017, has conducted 90 online and offline lectures as of January 18, 2025. Bringing together experts, scholars, and industry professionals from 22 countries and regions, the forum addresses a wide range of topics, including cross-cultural leadership, business development, and cultural understanding. By fostering dialogue and exchange, it promotes mutual understanding and collaboration among individuals, businesses, and nations. Through its WeChat official account, Zhuang Yang on Leadership, and the WeChat video channel, Cross-Cultural Leadership Talks, the forum disseminates content via online articles, short videos, and live streaming. Reaching audiences in over 60 countries and regions and engaging more than one million people, the forum has become a powerful platform for advancing cross-cultural exchanges and cooperation. It continues to enhance leadership capabilities and plays a pivotal role in global cross-cultural communication.

 

About the Happiness Studies Academy (HSA)

The Happiness Studies Academy (HSA) originated from Dr. Tal Ben-Shahar’s Happiness course at Harvard University, which he taught in 2002. Currently, the Academy has over 6,000 students from more than 90 countries enrolled in its happiness programs. The mission of HSA is to ignite a global revolution in happiness research by empowering individuals to cultivate personal growth, family well-being, workplace happiness, and meaningful community leadership.To achieve this vision, HSA adopts a holistic and interdisciplinary approach to happiness, focusing not just on fleeting moments of joy, but on overall well-being, or "whole-person happiness," which integrates and balances the most important elements of life. The core concept of whole-person happiness revolves around five interconnected dimensions: spiritual well-being, physical well-being, Intellectual well-being, relational well-being, and emotional well-being. Understanding and practicing whole-person happiness requires going beyond any single perspective or field. HSA integrates insights from diverse disciplines, including psychology, Eastern and Western philosophy, literature, history, economics, theology, biology, and more.
