2011 MBA Opening Ceremony Held Successfully

On August 27th, 2011, BiMBA opening ceremony of 2011 MBA was held successfully at the Lake View Hotel. Dr. Ho-Mou Wu, Executive Dean of National School of Development (NSD) at Peking University, Prof. Louis Verbeke, Chairman of Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School, Belgium, Dr. John Yang, NSD Co-Dean to BiMBA were invited to attend and welcomed enthusiastically by all the collegians. Dr. Bruce Stening, Vlerick International Dean to BiMBA hosted the opening ceremony.
Dr. Ho-Mou Wu, firstly gave the warmest welcome to all the students on behalf of the faculty and staff of NSD, and introduced the glorious history of NSD. Since China Center for Economic Research (CCER), now upgrading to NSD, had been founded for 17 years, the college was committed to economics-based interdisciplinary research, training a large number of senior leaders that served for national development. He emphasized that NSD not only concerned the development of economy, but also set its eyes on the future of the nation. He encouraged the students to broaden their vision and boost capabilities, and to take the responsibility to contribute to the nation’s prosperity.
Prof. Louis Verbeke, Chairman of Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School, Belgium, also delivered his congratulation and good wishes to all the students. He briefly introduced Vlerick which was a leading business schools around the world, ranking among the top business schools not only in EU but also in the whole world. As BiMBA’s corporation partner, Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School attached great importance to its long-standing partnership in the coming years and would create more academic exchange opportunities for students of BiMBA. He mentioned that the students were not only the students of Peking University, but also Vlerick’s and brought forward his expectations that BiMBA students should grow into the best native talent with an international vision.
Dr. John Yang next delivered a speech on "BiMBA's Core Values and Global Mindset". He pointed out that on the background of China's reforms and modernization practices, BiMBA was operating in the excellent academic atmosphere and a long line of research traditions at Peking University. It was committed to active participation in high level dialogues with local and global leaders, discussing China's present reforms and future development as well as the reconstruction of a global new order. As the first joint international MBA program in Beijing approved by the Chinese government, BiMBA had been guided to develop into a world class MBA program since its foundation. Whether it was with Fordham University (Fordham University) for strategic cooperation, or the introduction of West Point's International Leadership Program, BiMBA was always open to different values and innovative ideas. With the support of NSD, BiMBA students could enjoy the luxury of knowing the latest trend of development in the country. World-renowned economist and a number of Nobel Prize winners and business leaders were invited to give lectures in BiMBA. Moreover, He particularly pointed out that as for part-time students, BiMBA rigorous curriculum standards might be a great challenge. However, as he suggested, the attitude, time management and efficiency are very significant to overcome the difficulties and actively participation in the teamwork can help students improve innovation. BiMBA aims to train, develop and inspire passionate business leaders and professionals of competence, character and commitment.
Dr. Bruce Stening also gave a brief introduction of Vlerick’s history and academic achievement. He also introduced the faculty and staff of BiMBA from different departments, expressing the heartfelt gratitude for their dedication to the enrollment and opening ceremony of this year.
After speech section, Prof. Louis Verbeke led a short but fascinating case study discussion with all the students. By continuously asking participants questions, he provoked the student’s deep thinking on the common issue of "Diversity and Right and Wrong". After that, Dr. Bruce Stening clarified some important regulations and policies in the student handbook.
The students experienced the international environment from the speeches addressed respectively by the professors. The opening ceremony finally closed in a relaxing atmosphere, and this will be the starting point of the next phase of learning. Wish every student in BiMBA embrace a brighter future!
