BiMBA 2009 Orientation

At the beginning of this golden fall came BiMBA 2009 Opening Ceremony.

It was held at Zhonghua Hall, the Lake View Hotel, August 22, 2009. Dr. Philippe Haspeslagh, the Dean of Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School, Belgium, Dr. Ho-Mou Wu, Executive Dean of National School of Development (NSD), Dr. John Yang, NSD International Dean to BiMBA and Dr. Bruce Stening, Vlerick International Dean to BiMBA were present and delivered fantastic speeches.

As the host of this event, Dr. Bruce Stening, with his humorous and passionate hosting style, impressed everyone. On behalf of the faculty and staff of BiMBA, he gave the warmest welcome to all the students and introduced the glorious history of BiMBA.

Dr. Ho-Mou Wu, Executive Dean of NSD also expressed his welcome to the students. When telling the story of how China Center for Economic Research (CCER) upgrading to NSD, Dr. Ho-Mou Wu emphasized the importance of name-changing: only concerning the development of economy is not enough; we should set our eyes on the whole picture of the nation. He encouraged the students to broaden their vision and boost capabilities, and to take the responsibility to contribute to the nation’s prosperity. After that, Dr. Wu briefly introducedVlerick which ranks among the top business schools not only in EU but also in the whole world. With its support, BiMBA students will build up their professional knowledge and develop an international vision. At the end, Dr. Wu brought forward his expectations: BiMBA students should grow into great leaders with deep thinking, strong execution and social responsibility.

Dr. John Yang introduced the 11-year history of BiMBA. Each picture was a lively story, telling the glorious days of BiMBA. They showed that BiMBA has always been committed to providing students with opportunities to conduct face-to-face communication with elites from political, business and academic fields. Besides, BiMBA enjoys a great variety in terms of students’ nationality, geography and professional background. There is no other place that could attract so many talented people like BiMBA does. Learning in BiMBA has been full of fun. Besides in-class teaching, mountain climbing, hiking, camping and other kinds of activities were organized to help students better master the essence of leadership. With the support of NSD, BiMBA students could enjoy the luxury of knowing the latest trend of development in the country. As the most valuable MBA program, BiMBA always focuses on cultivating great leaders with mission, vision, passion, competences, characters and commitment.

Dr. Philippe Haspeslagh, Dean of Vlerick also delivered his congratulation and good wishes to all the students. After a brief introduction of Vlerick, he mentioned that the students were not only the students of Peking University, but also Vlerick’s. He wished all the students develop into outstanding leaders with an international vision. He highly agreed with the goal of BiMBA: teaching professional knowledge and skills as well as training the leadership characters. “It will be tougher this year for the graduates of BiMBA because of the financial crisis, but I believe in the value of BiMBA.’’ he said. This is not a place where you learn how to manage; it is the one where you learn how to be a great leader.

After a brief tea break, Dr. Bruce Stening introduced the staff of BiMBA from different departments. After that, he clarified some important points in the student handbook, i.e. some regulations and policies. The opening ceremony finally closed with a value-related discussion among students.
