On the afternoon of May 19th, 2011, Gallup Consulting, a famous and respectful US consulting firm, paid a visit to National School of Development & BiMBA at Peking University. Ms. Suimin Feng, Director of Talent Sourcing Gallup Consulting China, together with Mr. Jim Wang, Manager of Client Service, presented a lively campus talk to the MBA students and CCER master candidates. The event was held by Ms. Crystal Fang from Career Development Department of BiMBA .

Ms. Feng introduced the strategic transition and talent plan of Gallup Consulting to the audience. In China, Gallup Consulting hopes to change from a traditional research firm focusing on marketing researches and polls to a performance management consulting firm. Correspondingly, Gallup Consulting will make some modifications on its talent plan. In the future, the firm will not only recruit candidates through overseas channels, but look for excellent MBAs, masters and undergraduates from China’s top business schools.

Ms. Feng talked about Gallup Consulting’s history, organizational structure, business scope, corporate culture, and its recruiting procedures. She highlighted that Gallup Consulting differs from traditional strategic consulting firms such as BCG and McKinsey in its focus on ‘organic’ growth of the clients under the current resources and conditions. The logic behind is to better match the employees’ strengths to the working positions’ requirement, to increase the performances, and to achieve the sustainable development of the business.

Meanwhile, Gallup Consulting cares much for its employees within the firm. No matter in the recruiting, training, performance reviewing or in career developing process, Gallup Consulting emphasizes on the strengths of the staff. By finding the best match between the person and the position, Gallup Consulting improves employees’ engagement. As a result, the engagement of the clients will be improved as well.

Mr. Jim Wang then shared with the students his experiences in Gallup Consulting as a new employee, his reasons for choosing the firm and some interview tips. As Jim put it, Gallup Consulting’s business potential and employee-oriented style are the two elements he values most.

In the Q&A section, the students had a lot to ask about the recruiting process and career development path in the firm. The campus talk went to an end in an interactive atmosphere.
