BiMBA Opening Ceremony of EMBA 2011 Held Successfully

It was August 19th at the alteration of the summer and autumn when the freshmen of EMBA from BiMBA’s 2011 autumn classes gathered to witness their opening ceremony in Langrun Garden in Peking University. Dr. Ho-Mou Wu, Executive Dean of National School of Development (NSD), Dr. Dayuan Hu and Dr. John Yang, both NSD International Dean to BiMBA were present and delivered fantastic speeches. The faculty and staff of administration department also attended the ceremony.
To start this event, Dr. Ho-Mou Wu extended his sincere congratulations and welcome to all 108 EMBA freshmen for the study in BiMBA on behalf of the faculty and staff of BiMBA and introduced its glorious history. Combining the good academic tradition of Peking University, BiMBA also focuses on educational innovation and internationalization since it was founded in 1998. Based on NSD, BiMBA is able to study and pass on the knowledge of management from the “height of grasping the trend of the country's economic development and business environment change”, and to create a unique positioning in the field of management education. Meanwhile, with the support of NSD, BiMBA students could enjoy the luxury of knowing the latest trend of development in the country and the whole world. At the end of his speech, Dr. Wu brought forward BiMBA vision to develop comprehensive talents who both have deep insight into Chinese business environment and economic development, but also possess the global vision. He encouraged the students to broaden their horizons and boost capabilities, and to take the responsibility to contribute to the nation’s prosperity.
The graduate representative, Ms. Jie Zhang shared her wonderful experience in BiMBA. In her welcome speech, she quoted the beautiful poetic sentences on the preface of Class 09 Journal, giving lively description to the freshmen a two-year lasting journey full of hardship and tears as well as more beautiful landscapes and plentiful harvest in return.
Mr. Ping Du, the director of training center of National Development Reform Commission (NDRC), made a brief speech as the freshman representative. As he said, it was the idea to fulfill his dream of studying in Peking University and the successful corporation between NSD and NDRC in the past that persuaded him to pursue EMBA degree in BiMBA. With the famous saying by Charles Dickens, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times” he urged his fellow elites in BiMBA to shoulder the important tasks from the era and the nation.
Then, Dr. John Yang introduced the 13-year BiMBA values. He told the freshmen that BiMBA inherited the Tradition of Peking University and connected rail with the whole world with Chinese characteristics and the top-ranking education. He also made special mention of its partner-West Point Academy’s influence on BiMBA educational philosophy. To be specific, BiMBA, as the most valuable MBA program, focuses on the study of West Point’s unique leadership philosophy, behavior and teaching practice and aims at cultivating students to become the highly responsible managers and enterprises with deep thinking, strong execution and social responsibility and to make great contributions to the society.
Prof. Dayuan Hu introduced to the freshmen the general information and core-evaluation of BiMBA courses and emphasized on BiMBA teaching standards and examination rules, describing a whole picture of the next two-year study to the students. According to the past 13-year experience, he delivered a speech on “how to adapt to the new environment”, giving some useful suggestions on EMBA studying. He encouraged all the students to embrace challenges positively, balance the study and their work, and arrange the time perfectly to ensure the quality of learning in BiMBA.
Dr. Hu also pointed out that learning in BiMBA had been full of fun. Besides in-class teaching, mountain climbing, hiking, camping and other kinds of activities and clubs were organized spontaneously to help students better master the essence of leadership and better communicate with each other.
In the final round, Mr. Heying Sun, the graduate of EMBA 2001 and Principle of Mercer Management Consulting, was invited to host a friendly ice -breaking activities among students. Through group discussion and group shows, the freshmen made interactive communication, increasing mutual understanding of each other. With the intoxicating evening view of early autumn in Langrun Garden, the opening ceremony finally closed with buffet dinner. It is believed that the freshmen have already prepared themselves for their two-year study in BiMBA.
