BiMBA International Exchange Activity: Euro-Asia Bicycle Journey by Two French Students
Apr 18-2013
On September 29, Beijing International MBA at Peking University (BiMBA) invited two French B-school graduate students, Anne Salaun and Benjamin Stoll, to engage in an interesting international exchange activity. Guess what is special about our guests? In late March, 2011, they started their journey on a bike from their hometown in France along the ancient Silk Road through ten countries, and finally arrived in Beijing, China 6 months later. Today they were with us at BiMBA to give us a presentation on their Bike to School journey.
In the Langrun Park of BiMBA, they showed their special recumbent tandem for all the people present, and demonstrated the special features of the tandem. They even invited some students to try the bike themselves. Yang Zhuang, Dean of BiMBA, warmly received them and tried the bike with great interest.
In the presentation they gave, Anne and Benjamin elaborated on an essential part of their journey and introduced the Bike to School Project in detail. They said this project was their tour of dream, as well as a part of curriculum of their Business School. It’s a sport challenge, but mainly a human experience. When they stopped at schools of each country, they met with pupils, university students and general public, sharing their experience and discussing about the issue of sustainable development. To actualize this project, they put what they learned in Business School about the knowledge of organization and management into the preparation and implementation of it. At the final destination, they amazed the audience with their experience of different cultures and traditions. After that, they interviewed some students about their future prospects, and encouraged them to have dreams and try their best to realize them.
During the Q & A session, when asked about how they persisted till the end, Benjamin pointed out that it is the cooperation and encouragement of partnership that give him courage to fulfill their great plan.
When asked about why they chose Beijing as their destination, they replied that firstly it is because of the limits of time, they have to attend class after this travel. Secondly, they think Beijing is a symbol of Eastern Asia, and Peking University is of profound academic traditions, they would love to communicate with students here, and they were happy to have this opportunity.
The event came to a perfect ending after the host of this activity, Mr. Tony Liu, the Director of International Programs at BiMBA and students from Cycling Association of PKU presented our guests with souvenirs.
