National School of Development at Peking University Dean Yao Yang: Following the Spirit of Peking University – Exploring Real Issues
Everyone at Peking University, even after graduating for many years will have an emotional bond to the school. This special bond, according to Prof. Yao Yang, comes from two points. First is the Peking University spirit of ‘independence’, it is well known that Peking University has an inexorable link with Chinese history; it is a platform for free thinking and independent teaching. Second is Peking University’s diversity, which benefits from Cai Yuanpei’s call for “free thinking and tolerance”. At Peking University, you can challenge authority; professors think of themselves are providing a service rather than leaders and stress the importance of learning from each other. The National School of Development at Peking University has been called the best school in Peking University due to its original purpose of solving and exploring of the issues facing modern China. This is the unique aspect of the NSD. The NSD is equipped with world-class MBA and EMBA programs, first-rate professors engaging in debate, academic discussion and advice for the government, making it ‘China’s Think-Tank’. Looking to the future, Dean Yao Yang hopes that within three years the new Chengze Yuan campus will be completed, providing students with an even bigger space to study and live.
BiMBA Academic Committee Director Ma Hao: A Journey of a Thousand Miles Starts With the First Step
A journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step - Professor Ma Hao, Director of BiMBA’s Academic Committee gave new students a taste of the next two years’ journey to come. When full-time and part-time classes have begun, there will also be an opportunity to take Fordham University’s Global Finance Masters’ Program and Wisconsin University’s Real Estate Masters’ Programme, offering students with a wealth of study opportunities. In addition, famous professors from the US, Europe and China will train students to take a global perspective and there will also be overseas study visits. Aside from regular classes, BiMBA organises a series of presentations, inviting NSD professors as well as captains of industry to share their knowledge with students.
Vlerick Business School Academic Dean Dirk Buyen: Exploring a New Me – Independent Thinking
Professor Dirk focused on two issues. First, what does it mean to study an MBA at BiMBA? Professor Dirk believes that it signifies a transition, a journey of change – this may be the end of a student’s previous job; it is an intermediary period to find oneself and is a new beginning. For both full-time and part-time students, it is a chance to self-reflect and motivate. Meanwhile, professor Dirk hopes that new students will work hard, play hard, prepare in good time and learn to develop oneself: under the tutelage of the specialized teaching faculty, in the extremely challenging environment, to think independently and express one’s own voice. Prof. Dirk also noted the importance of students’ influence on each other: “Your neighbour may influence your life.” Finally, Prof. Dirk introduced Vlerick Business School’s strong faculty.

The theme for 2014’s MBA team building activity is “Never Stop”, meaning never stop studying, never stop exploring, never stop revelling. She mentioned the aim for creating the team building exercise is to cultivate students’ team spirit and to learn, through the activity, to praise, to tolerate, to share and to love – to cultivate students’ leadership skills.
