The event was jointly hosted by four alumni of the BiMBA Business School at NSD, namely Wu Xuesong, Yu Yi, Tian Zi and Su Ning.
The event, themed “The Beauty of Prosperity”, comprised three parts - “life”, “growth” and “beauty”. By way of piano recital, dance performances, songs, poetry recitals, and guest speeches, the historical milestones of BiMBA Business School was recounted, from the time when Justin Yifu Lin et al co-founded the School, to continued expansion by Hu Dayuan, Yang Zhuang et al, to the determined efforts by Zhang Li and Chen Chunhua to innovate. These expressed the good intentions of BiMBA’s partners, Fordham University (USA), Vlerick Business School (Belgium) and UCL School of Management (UK), to continue to work together with NSD to create a bright future for BiMBA. It is hoped that the “Once BiMBA, Always BiMBA” spirit and tradition would be handed down for generations to come by its many alumni.
Yao Yang, Dean of NSD: I hope that BiMBA people will “never stop learning and never graduate”
As a long-time Peking University (PKU) man, Yao Yang said PKU’s intricate links with the destiny of the entire nation, as well as PKU’s “freedom of thought and all-embracing” spirit moved him deeply. The BiMBA School was conceived in precisely such a university.Business education is now integral to NSD.High profile service, low profile conduct (of personal affairs), and national and family oriented sentiments have become the most outstanding characteristics of BiMBA people over the last two decades.
On behalf of NSD, Yao Yang thanked the team who founded BiMBA, and thanked the three joint venture partners - Fordham University, Vlerick Business School and UCL School of Management - for their strong support of the BiMBA program over the years.
Last but not least, he thanked all alumni. It was precisely because the alumni were so enthusiastic in giving back to their alma mater that the Alumni Foundation was able to raise more than RMB30 million. Going forward, the alumni will likely continue to give back to their alma mater in different ways. Meanwhile, NSD has launched an online learning platform, “Langrun Classroom”, to help its alumni to “never stop learning and never graduate”.
Liang Neng, the first BiMBA Dean from the Chinese joint venture party: “Soul of a manager who cultivates Langrun Garden”
Recounting the “fledgling days of passionate and burning enthusiasm”, Professor Liang Neng could recall the hive of activity and hardship that the School experienced in its initial phase, when “reporters wanted to conduct interviews, prospective students wanted to make inquiries, entities wanted to discuss collaboration, enterprises hoped to have training, classrooms awaited renovation, and staff needed to be hired quickly. There was never enough time, and staff shortage dogged every department”.As the first China-foreign joint venture program in Beijing, BiMBA continued to explore despite its lack of experience. The founding team was conscientious and performed to their utmost ability. The moving image of “learned scholars never lacking in Langrun Garden, and there were no illiterates here” is fixed for posterity.
“Soul of a manager who cultivates Langrun Garden” - he sincerely wished that all alumni become their ideal self, and also wished that BiMBA would have another 20 glorious years!
Yang Zhuang, Co-Dean of BiMBA: “The spirit of Peking University, socially-oriented sentiments, national development, and global vision”
What are the internal attributes of BiMBA?Professor Yang Zhuang, who has dedicated 20 years of his career to BiMBA, believed that PKU’s “freedom of thought and all-embracing” spirit, the historic mission of NSD driving social advancement and national development, as well as the philosophy of combining East-West learning and integrating knowledge and practice to nurture a person of talent are the internal attributes of BiMBA.
Students who argued with each other in the classroom, and who were passionate about public welfare outside the classroom left an indelible impression on him, so did foreign teachers who came to Beijing to teach during “SARS”. What was even more unforgettable were the teachers and colleagues who worked diligently with him for BiMBA.He sincerely hoped that BiMBA would continue to persevere and uphold the education philosophy of the “spirit of Peking University, socially-oriented sentiments, national development, and global vision”, and help nurture business leaders for society.

Chen Chunhua, Dean of BiMBA: BiMBA’s future is our co-creation
Chen Chunhua was the last professor to speak at the “growth” session. She said that where growth was concerned, it was necessary to first review the foundation for growth - it was the joint effort of BiMBA people of preceding generations, all the teachers and administrative teams of Langrun Garden, as well as the three joint venture partners that had laid a solid foundation for future growth.

Inherent drivers were integral to growth, and in this case, the driver was the spirit of continually challenging oneself as far as BiMBA people were concerned. It was reflected in the endeavors of EMBA students at the Gobi Desert Challenge for business schools, and the efforts of the BiMBA representatives at the 7th Asian-Pacific Business Schools Desert Challenge which won 2nd prize at the group level. Langrun Garden's enormous energy was also derived from the tradition of academic reverence, respect for knowledge and courage to implement.
Whither BiMBA going forward?Chen Chunhua hoped to offer the best answer over the next 20 years together with her colleagues.
