Reform: Long Journey Ahead

Dec 17-2018

The 3rd National Development Forum was held on December 15th in Beijing and its messages and voices will resonate and reverberate for years to come. The forum paid tribute to the 40-year anniversary of China’s reform and opening-up and sought to uncover and pool policy recommendations for its journey ahead. Mr. Gao Shangquan, former Deputy Director of the State Commission for Restructuring the Economic System, and Prof. Justin Lin, Honorary Dean of NSD, delivered the keynote speeches in the morning and afternoon session respectively. Some of China’s leading scholars, from NSD and other institutes, as well as government officials and entrepreneurs joined round-table dialogues to share their insights and experiences. From system-design perspective, much still needs to be done to ensure that the market plays the decisive role in resource allocation, e.g. by removing cognitive hindrance and policy distortions.
