More Export Destinations

China should expand its exports to more developed countries such as Japan and South Korea - in addition to the US and the EU - as well as to the BRICKS countries, wrote NSD Deputy Dean and Professor Yu Miaojie in an opinion piece for a Chinese media. With regard to the Belt and Road Initiative, he proposed prioritizing the development of the Maritime Silk Road by tapping the close relationships with the ASEAN countries, while at the same time cooperating with the countries along the Land Silk Road to expand and optimize production capacities. Internally, the focus should be on developing regional economies, with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Xiong An New Area being the two most important ones. Prof. Yu also shared his understandings of China’s reform and opening-up over the last 40 years, and believed it’s one of the top three historical events of China since the May 4th Movement in 1919. The other two were the founding of the Chinese Communist Party in 1921 and the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949.
