The United Way for Charity
Apr 02-2019
Charity organizations can achieve much more in this new era through two ways: One, cross-boundary integration seeing governments, NGOS, firms, and communities jointly tackle such challenges as education, housing, medical care, and immigration; Two, make optimal use of digital technology and craft digital solutions to ensure transparence, coordination and management, so proposed Mr. Brian A. Gallagher, President and CEO of United Way Worldwide during the recent PKU Cross-Cultural Leadership Forum. He was invited by NSD Prof. John Yang, Co-Dean of BiMBA Business School. UWW has a history of over 130 years and currently works with more than 60,000 organizations, nearly 3 million volunteers and 9 million donors worldwide. The USD4.7 billion of funds raised annually enables it to support 6.1 million people’s needs in education, medical care, immigration and income stability. Prof. Yang commended UWW and Mr. Gallagher’s unswerving commitment to mission and values. He said China’s urbanization demands the formation of community cultures and mutual support among residents, and called on students and alumni of BiMBA Business School to take up social responsibilities and do more for charity.
