Prof. Huang Yiping at IMF Spring Meetings

Prof. Huang Yiping attended the Spring Meetings of the IMF and the World Bank in Washington DC on April 11th and participated in panel discussions on key global trends and implications for the Fund’s policy advice, hosted by IMF President Christine Lagarde. The other panelists were Jon Cunliffe, Vice Governor of the Bank of England; Siv Jensen, Norwegian Finance Minister; Oksana Markarova, Ukraine Finance Minister; and Ahmed Shide, Ethiopian Finance Minister. They offered views on how the IMF could improve on policy advice and effectively coordinate and work with member countries to ensure robust and bouncy growth worldwide. Prof. Huang, who is also Deputy Dean of NSD and Director of PKU Digital Finance Research Center, proposed that the IMF carefully analyze the impact of the fast development of Fintec on financial stability and monetary policy transmission, objectively evaluate the division of work between developing countries and their markets, and substantially reinforce policy-making concerning the economic policies of countries of systemic importance. In October 2018, he was appointed to IMF’s External Supervision and Consulting Team by Ms. Christine Lagarde.  Together with other world-renowned experts on the team, he provides consulting and support to the IMF’s Complete Supervision and Review due in 2020. Hope the Spring Meetings will generate spring in the steps of the world economy.
