Let's Debate

Jun 08-2019

The first ever debate competition at NSD came to its grand finale on May 26, seeing two teams slug it out over the topic ‘Can China’s Economic Model be Copied or Not by the Other Developing Countries?’

The competition was jointly organized by BiMBA Business School and Langrun Sharing Club, a student initiative to link up students and alumni, and received immense support from the various programs at NSD. Some alumni acted as mentors for the teams.

In his opening speech, Prof. Yao Yang, NSD Dean, stressed the importance of public speaking and highlighted the significance of the debate topic. He pointed out that China’s Go Abroad strategy had enormous influence around the world, and China Development Bank’s loans to Belt and Road countries had overtaken the total lending of the World Bank. Therefore, the debate topic addressed a serious and important issue – an issue that was also in the veins of NSD.

After heated debates, the ‘Can’ team took home the victory, while a debater on the “Cannot” team won the Best Debater.
