Dr. John Yang: Tandem for Innovations

Leadership doesn't equal power; rather, effective leadership motivates, inspires and guides subordinates to achieve organizational mission and targets, said Dr. John Yang, Co-Dean of BiMBA Business School, in a recent interview with China Business Daily.

Dr. John Yang believed the essential driving force for China's innovation is leadership, which can be defined as the fusion of strategy, professionalism and characters. Innovation entails smashing rules, facilitating hurdle-free communication among people, and connecting different minds. Entrepreneurs must put people at the heart of it all.

Yet leadership on its own is not enough for innovation to flourish. The business eco-system has a huge role as 'sufficient condition' to play. Notwithstanding the great accomplishments in China's business eco-system, more reflections and soul searching can be done on philosophical and cultural level. A conscientious culture fosters the good in people's heart and contains the budding of evil germs. Cultural reflections pave the route to innovations, he said.
