Cross-Examine the Reforms

Jul 30-2019

Edited by Mr. Wang Xianqing and Mr. Fan Baoqun, two researchers at NSD, the newly published Cross-Examine the Reforms is a collection of research papers and discourses by 23 NSD professors and guest speakers. It's the third book in a series dedicated to tracing and analyzing China's reforms over the last four decades.

Prof. Yao Yang, NSD Dean, wrote the preface of the book and hoped that the readers will get to feel NSD teachers’ independent thinking and persistence in questioning and also manage to learn some methods of viewing the world.

Forty years into reform, confusions still abound. Prof. Yao offered some broad brushes to help the readers grasp the myriad threads of reforms: First of all, the reforms have progressed unevenly in industries and regions; Second, the reforms are bound to be a dynamic process in which questions and solutions are in constant shift; Third, the reforms concern not only China but also the world and China has been contributing over 30% of global growth for years.

Looking forward, Prof. Yao believed that the most reliable gauge remains the same as forty years ago: emancipating the mind and seeking truth from facts.
