Premier’s Meeting with Young Scholars

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. On September 2nd, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang convened a work meeting with 80 young scholars who have benefited from the grants of the Fund. Prof. Yu Miaojie, also Party Chief of NSD, was the only representative from the economics discipline to attend the meeting.
Around 4,000 scholars have benefited from the Fund in its 25-year history. Prof. Yu’s research project, International Trade and China’s Economic Transformation, obtained its funding in 2016 and was recognized for its excellence in a mid-project evaluation meeting by leading experts this year. His book, Yu Miaojie on China-US Trade, has been presented as part of the research results to the Premier and other state leaders.
Since working with the Fund in 2016, Prof. Yu has published 63 papers and four books. Four of his papers have been published by top international journals. He is committed to using academic research to serve national strategy.
