Prof. Justin Lin and Prof. Wei Shangjin Awarded

The National Economics Foundation announced on December 11th that its Contemporary Economics Award 2019 goes to Prof. Justin Lin Yifu and Prof. Wei Shangjin in celebration of their outstanding contributions in the field of developmental economics.
Both winners are tightly connected with the NSD. Prof. Justin Lin is co-founder and Honorary Dean of the NSD, Dean of the Institute of New Economics at Peking University, as well as Dean of the Institute of South-South Cooperation and Development at Peking University.
Prof. Wei Changjin is Senior Visiting Professor at the NSD. He teaches finance and economics at Columbia Business School, besides other pedagogical and research commitments.
The Beijing-based Foundation commended Prof. Lin for his outstanding contributions in two areas: relationships between China’s agricultural productive organization and productivity, and institutional change.
Prof. Wei was praised for his outstanding contributions in competitive saving and the unified calculation framework for international trade under economic globalization.
Prof. Lin co-founded China Center for Economic Research (CCER, now NSD) at Peking University in 1994, which has developed to house BiMBA Business School and a think tank. He worked as the Chief Economist and Senior Vice President of the World Bank from 2008 to 2012. Known for his academic achievements and impact on the world, he has won many awards and is a fellow of a handful of leading academies and institutions worldwide.
According to the Research Papers in Economics, an economics research database, Prof. Wei has constantly ranked No.1 of Chinese economists globally. By early June, his papers have commanded 44,806 citations according to Google Scholar. In the area of China economics research, he has the second highest citation rate among all economists globally; he is the third, fifth and eighth in international trade, international finance, and economic development respectively.
