Mar 29-2021

Antoni Radziwill, PKU-UCL MBA 2018 Part-time Class, BiMBA MBA Ambassador

13 years' working experience in cross-border projects related to business development, strategic consultancy, outsourcing, market research. He is now serving as BD & Senior Operations Specialist in Alibaba Group and is mainly responsible for the business development and content operation of AliExpress in the Polish market.

From Poland to China

Antoni Radziwill came from a renowned Polish family, with a family history of over 600 years. Yet as luck would have it, he came to China to study the Chinese language. It has never occurred to him that he would stay in China for such a long period. 'It was not only because I was deeply drawn by China’s unique culture, but also because I believed in this new emerging market. China has given me so much and I am deeply grateful for it'.

With this belief, he first worked in an investment company where he was involved in China-EU strategic consulting projects. Then he joined a public company as a research manager and analyst in the overseas department, leading his team focusing on business development and marketing strategy primarily in the USA, EU, and India. By now, Antoni already has 13 years’ working experience in cross-border projects related to business development, strategic consultancy, outsourcing and market research. Moreover, he is also the Co-founder of ChinyTech.pl, the largest Polish online platform related to technology in Asia. In 2020, Antoni joined Alibaba Group, starting his new journey in Hangzhou, the headquarter of Alibaba. He is mainly responsible for the business development and content operation of AliExpress in the Polish market. He mentioned that AliExpress considers Poland to be one of its three key markets in Europe, as well as one of the most important. AliExpress's emerging importance and fast-growing market scale show how deeply it has entered the Polish market.

The Important Decision

'Many friends of mine often ask me whether it is worth it to do an MBA. Well, if you're preparing to enter the competitive business world of today, then I believe it is'. The advantages of studying an MBA are apparent, especially when it's from a well-regarded business school. 'Getting a higher income after graduation, landing a management position, developing a strong professional network, or even becoming your own boss, all these advantages were so appealing for me after many years of working yet finding myself at a standstill', Antoni recalled. He was looking for a breakthrough in his career and wanted to fight harder for himself as well as for his family.

Peking University

Having settled his mind in studying an MBA, Antoni started to collect information about different MBA programs. 'I checked different opportunities for international students in top universities in Beijing, and I was drawn by the PKU-UCL MBA program'. The PKU-UCL MBA program is cooperatively run by two top-world universities: Peking University and University College London, combining outstanding teaching resources from China and the UK. It offers you the unique opportunity not only to learn from the great minds of China and the UK but also to learn from the comparison and analysis of the two knowledge systems how to arrive at the best way to connect the two business worlds. Of course, there is no doubt that the appealing campus will make your study a pleasant journey, but be prepared that you need to fully commit yourself to the program once you join. 'It is definitely not an easy path but indeed a rewarding one'. 'Looking back, choosing to study an MBA and choosing BiMBA is indeed one of the most important decisions in my career development'.

The Rewarding MBA Study

The part-time MBA study is not an easy path. It takes courage and time. 'After a long week of work you really need to pull lots of strength to sit down and start the not-so-easy MBA study on weekends', Antoni said. Except for weekend lessons, you need to find time for the exam, presentation, calculation, examination, essay, etc. 'But it is all worth it and it is a very right decision I've made!'

With renowned professors and scholars, the PKU-UCL MBA study enabled him to develop further in the area of business management and market analysis. 'As a foreigner who has lived in China for so many years, I have an in-depth admiration for professors' insightful understanding of economy and business corporations', Antoni added. What’s more, the engagement with so many entrepreneurs from various business backgrounds also helped him gain more profound knowledge about company operations in different industries.

Working in Alibaba is always fully loaded. 'Every day there are new problems to solve. You worked hard to make a project ran smoothly, but the next minute everything could collapse. As we are often saying in Alibaba: change is the only constant', Antoni described. Yet he enjoys the feeling of meeting challenges and gaining new business experience. Using the knowledge he gained in his MBA studies, he improved his business and operational skills. MBA study gives him a unique perspective to look at problems he met and find solutions with possible resources at hand.

With his MBA study coming to an end, Antoni has a clearer picture of his future career development. He will be more devoted to being a bridge between China and Poland's business world. MBA is not an end in itself. It is only a tool for a successful career in management. New experiences and skills gained during MBA studies make him robust, and help to develop a different perspective of the entire business. The knowledge and management skills acquired during the MBA are universal and independent. This versatility makes it possible to work in an economic area, including starting your own business.
