China-US Track II Dialogues Full of Fruition

The 7th round China-US Track II Dialogues, successfully held online by the NSD and the National Committee on US-China Relations, consisted of dialogues on healthcare from July 20 to 22 and economic ones on July 25 and 28.

 

As an auxiliary of the China-US humanity exchange mechanism, the China-US Healthcare Track II Dialogues invited 28 leading experts and industry representatives from the two countries to conduct in-depth discussions on joint efforts to address current and future pandemics, build preventive public healthcare systems, encourage innovations in public medical care, and facilitate global regulatory coordination.

 

US representatives to the meeting included Steve Orlins, Chairman of the National Committee on US-China Relations; Mark McClellan, former director of the FDA and professor of Duke University; and professors from Harvard University and Yale University as well business leaders.

 

On the Chinese side were Liu Guoen, NSD professor and Director of PKU Institute for Global Health and Development; Gao Fu, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and former Director of China Center for Disease Control and Prevention; and other scholars and senior business executives.

 

China-US Economic Track II Dialogues centered on two topics, namely “Economic Prospects and Policy Outlook in the Second Half of 2022 and Beyond” and “Development Prospects of China-US Economic and Trade Relations”.

 

Carla Hills, Honorary Chairman of the National Committee on China-US Relations, and Steve Orlins were joined on the US side by economists and executives from Moody’s, Citibank, Rhodium Group, and University of California San Diego.

 

Representing China were Qin Xiao, former Chairman of the Board of China Merchants Group and China Merchants Bank; Prof. Yao Yang, Dean of the NSD and Director of China Center for Economic Research; Prof. Huang Yiping, Associate Dean of the NSD and Director of PKU Institute of Digital Finance; and economists from leading financial institutions.

 

Since 2010, the Track II Dialogues have been facilitating open and thorough discussions on important issues for the two countries. Summaries of the dialogues are submitted to policy makers of the two governments.
