Prof. Yu Miaojie Appointed President of Liaoning University

On August 13, Prof. Yu Miaojie was appointed by Liaoning Provincial Party Committee as President of Liaoning University as well as member of the Party Committee, member of the Standing Party Committee, and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of this institution of higher learning.

 

Hitherto he was PKU Bo Ya Distinguished Professor and Associate Dean of the NSD. Besides, he is Changjiang Scholar and Distinguished Professor of the Ministry of Education, Distinguished Young Scholar of National Science Fund, and Outstanding Young Scientist of Beijing.

 

Born in 1976 in Guangdong Province, Prof. Yu received his doctoral degree in Economics from University of California, Davis and joined the NSD in September 2006. He focuses his research on international trade, global economy and China’s economic development and has published more than 150 papers in leading domestic and international journals as well as 15 Chinese and English books and textbooks.

 

Academically, Prof. Yu is among the global top 1% of most-cited economists in economics and management and was the first Chinese economist to be awarded by the Royal Economic Society of the UK. He has presided over a series of important projects at national level or by the Ministry of Education, and worked as academic member of a number of top research institutes and associate editor or editorial board member of domestic and international core economic journals.

 

Prof. Yu was appointed Associate Dean of the NSD in May 2016 and Party Secretary of the NSD in December 2018. Under his watch, the NSD was awarded National Advanced Collective in Poverty Alleviation. In the events celebrating PKU’s 120-year anniversary, Prof. Yu, as a representative of outstanding teachers, was received by state leaders and participated in high-level symposiums of the State Council on multiple occasions.
