Sep 04-2022

To welcome the 2022 MBA cohort and help them set sail on the most fruitful journey, an opening ceremony and an orientation were held in Chengze Garden, the campus of BiMBA Business School at the NSD, on September 2.

Prof. Huang Yiping, Associate Dean of the NSD and Director of PKU Institute of Digital Finance, extended his warmest welcome to the new students and encouraged them to learn the unique offerings of BiMBA: grasp the big picture amid uncertainties by making the most of the think-tank that anchors the NSD.

Through videos, representatives of partner schools welcomed the students on board. Prof. Marion Debruyne, Dean of Vlerick Business School, and Prof. Dirk Buyens, International Dean of Vlerick for BiMBA, welcomed the students to join an MBA program known for integrating the best of the East and the West and urged them to live fully, learn continuously, and leap with confidence. Prof. Alan Parkinson, Deputy Director (Education) of UCL School of Management, and Associate Prof. Michael Manlangit, Program Director of UCL School of Management, explained the extensive research conducted by PKU and UCL to plan the curriculum and the importance for the students to not just learn the skills but also select the right ingredients to suit different circumstances of decision making.

Student representatives brimming with excitement shared their motivations for embracing this life-changing experience and plans for achieving transcendent goals. Sun Weining, who received her Ph.D. in Physiology from PKU more than a decade ago and currently works for a big pharmaceutical company, aims to combine learnings at BiMBA with her medical education and experience to set up her own company that will innovate medicines at affordable prices.

The opening ceremony culminated with the conferring of PKU badges on the students, followed by group photo-taking. The ensuing orientation comprised sessions on academic affairs, career development, and academic plan.
