Prof. Zeng Yi Awarded UN Healthy Ageing 50
Sep 26-2022
Prof. Zeng Yi of the NSD is one of 50 individuals from around the world that have recently been presented with the first ever United Nation Healthy Ageing 50 award. The winners are commended as leaders who transform the world to be a better place to grow old.
The ceremony was held during a side meeting of the UN’s Decade of Healthy Aging initiative (spanning 2021 to 2030) on September 22, 2022. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, and ministers from several countries attended the event and gave speeches.
The 50 award winners comprise eight senior government officials, 24 heads of social organizations, one UN agency senior official, 13 scholars, and 4 private business leaders. Also presented in the meeting were the projects and innovation outcomes of the initiative since its inception.
Prof. Zeng Yi was recognized for his outstanding academic achievements in healthy aging and economic development and viewed as an encouraging example for realizing the goals of the initiative.
In early 2021, the UN Assembly designated 2021-2030 as Decade of Healthy Aging at a time when the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing was about to mark its 20-year existence. The new initiative, the second of its kind, aims to draw strengths from governments, societies, international organizations, professionals, academic institutions, media and private sectors to improve the family and community life of the elderly and transform the world into a better place to grow old.
