NPC Standing Committee Thematic Lecture / Prof. Huang Yiping: Development and Governance of Digital Economy

On December 30, 2022, the 38th session of the 13th National People’s Congress Standing Committee was held at the Grand Hall of the People in Beijing. After the closing of the session, a thematic lecture was given. Li Zhanshu, Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, presided over the lecture. Prof. Huang Yiping, Deputy Dean of the NSD and Director of PKU Institute of Digital Finance, gave the lecture on the Development and Governance of the Digital Economy.

 

The development of the digital economy is an important achievement of the country’s market reform, said Prof. Huang. His lecture also covered the benefits and challenges of the digital economy, the need to construct a governance system based on conceptual innovations, and aspects to consider for building a digital economy governance system with Chinese characteristics. A range of research, regulations and blueprints were cited.

 

Prof. Huang Yiping is NSD’s Jinguang Chair Professor of Finance and Economics, its Deputy Dean, and Director of PKU Institute of Digital Finance. From 2015 to 2018, he was a member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the People’s Bank of China. Currently he also plays an important role in China Society of Finance and Banking, National Internet Finance Association, Finance 40 Forum, and Economists 50 Forum, while being the Editor-in-Chief of China Economic Journal and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Asian Economic Policy Review.

 

Prof. Huang’s research interests mainly lie in macroeconomics and financial policy. Previously he was Associate Researcher of the State Council’s Rural Development Research Center, Senior Lecturer of the Australian National University, Visiting Professor of Columbia Business School, Managing Director and Asia-Pacific Chief Economist of Citibank, Managing Director and Asia Emerging Markets Chief Economist of Barclays, member of the External Consulting Team on Supervisory Affairs of the International Monetary Fund, and Researcher of the Finance Research Center of the Counsellors’ Office of the State Council.
