UCL President Michael Spence Visits Peking University

On May 17, Mr. Michael Spence, President of University College London (UCL), visited Peking University (PKU). Mr. Gong Qihuang, President of PKU, met with Mr. Spence and his delegation and the two sides held talks on talent cultivation, pedagogical cooperation, and academic exchanges and signed an extension to the partnership memorandum between the two esteemed institutions. Mr. Qiao Jie, Executive Deputy President of PKU, and Ms. Ma Jingjing, Deputy Director of BiMBA Business School at National School of Development (NSD), attended the meeting.
On behalf of PKU, Mr. Gong Qihuang extended a warm welcome to Mr. Spence and his team and introduced to them the progress of PKU’s international educational collaborations. He pointed out that UCL is a world-class university and an important strategic partner of PKU. In recent years, the two universities have undertaken tight cooperation in many areas, including Confucius Institute, environmental sciences, medicine and healthcare, urban research, archeology and cultures, business administration, and artificial intelligence, thereby erecting a platform for facilitating talent exchanges and academic cooperation between China and the UK. Mr. Gong stressed that PKU will continue to support the exchanges and cooperation between its various schools and UCL and move their partnerships to a higher level.
Mr. Spence thanked PKU for the invitation and spoke highly of PKU’s accomplishments in scientific research and international development. He pointed out that the West needs to deepen its understanding of China and tackling global challenges calls for the participation of China. PKU is one of the most important global partners of UCL, and their cooperation on new frontiers is of profound significance for cultivating and promoting global harmony and development. He expected the two institutions to further strengthen all-round, multi-sphered collaboration and inject new vitality into the efforts to address the common challenges of the world.
In 2016, PKU and UCL sighed a joint declaration unveiling an MBA program operated by NSD and UCL’s School of Management (SoM).
