Great CAERE for Environment and Resources

The National School of Development hosted the 2nd Annual Conference of Chinese Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (CAERE) on July 13-14. Supported by the Energy Foundation (China), the event drew the participation of over 250 scholars from renowned universities, including Cornell University, Northwest University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and Tsinghua University. They held discussions on the latest trends and challenges in environmental and resource economics.
The keynote speeches were delivered by top experts such as Suzi Kerr, Chief Economist of Environmental Defense Fund; Prof. Shunsuke Managing of Kyushu University; Prof. Huang Jikun of Peking University; and Prof. Li Shanjun of Cornell University. They shared unique insights into climate change, wealth distribution, food security, and new energy vehicle policy.
A total of 15 sub-forums were held, encompassing major agendas in various fields: the impacts of climate change and countermeasures; sustainable development of natural resources and the environment; the link between environmental pollution and health; theories and practices of environmental policy and regulation; hotspots in energy economics and tactics for carbon neutrality and carbon reduction; development direction of green industry; and valuation of resource environment.
The roundtable discussions were undertaken by leading scholars, including Prof. Dai Hancheng, Prof. He Guojun, Prof. Huang Zonghuang, Prof. Liu Penghui, and Prof. Xie Lunyu. Their exchange of thoughts on the cutting-edge issues of environmental and resource economics offered inspiring views and advice to the participants.
The annual conference has not only deepened the academic circle’s understandings of environmental and resource economics, but also presented new direction for thoughts on tackling China’s environmental and resource challenges.
