Prof. Huang Yiping Reappointed to Central Bank’s Monetary Policy Commission

On March 19, 2024, the list of members of the Monetary Policy Commission of the People’s Bank of China was released. Prof. Huang Yiping, Dean of the NSD, was appointed an expert member for the second time. His previous membership ran from 2015 to 2018.

The current adjustment to the list was made following the amendments to the Regulations of the Monetary Policy Commission of the People’s Bank of China on January 19, 2024. According to the renewed Regulations, the Monetary Policy Commission shall be composed of the personnel from the following units: Governor of the People’s Bank of China; one Deputy Secretary General of the State Council; one Deputy Director of the National Development and Reform Commission; one Vice Minister of the Ministry of Finance; two Deputy Governors of the People’s Bank of China; Director of National Financial Regulatory Administration; Chairman of China Securities Regulatory Commission; Director of National Bureau of Statistics; Director of State Administration of Foreign Exchange; Director of China Banking Association; and three expert members. Adjustments to the composing units and personnel of the Monetary Policy Commission are decided by the State Council.

Some other NSD professors have served at the Monetary Policy Commission, such as Prof. Zhou Qiren and Prof. Song Guoqing. Yi Gang, NSD Founding Professor and currently Director of the Governing Council of China Society for Finance and Banking, held the concurrent post of Chairman of the Monetary Policy Commission during his tenure as Governor of the People’s Bank of China.
