The NSD 2026 Open Class Series: Hong Kong Session
Feb 03-2026
On 25 January 2026, the "Strategies for Corporate Growth Under the 15th Five-Year Plan" public lecture series, organized by the National School of Development (NSD) at Peking University and co-hosted by the Hong Kong Association of Small and Medium-sized Listed Companies and the Hong Kong Chinese Financial Association, successfully concluded. The event was organized by the NSD EMBA Centre, MBA Centre and Hong Kong Alumni Association, with support from the ICAAHK Hong Kong Student Association, the LSE Hong Kong Alumni Association and the University of Bristol.
Dr Chai Yurong, Director of the EMBA Centre and Assistant Dean of the BiMBA Business School at NSD, moderated the public lecture. The speakers shared insights and strategic guidance on corporate breakthroughs and global expansion from various perspectives. These included the value of Hong Kong's capital markets, AI and new quality productive forces, financial empowerment, connections within the alumni network, and cross-border financial practices. This provided valuable information for enterprises in both regions to help them connect resources and pursue collaborative development.
Professor Huang Zhuo, Vice Dean of NSD and Dean of BiMBA Business School then delivered a keynote speech titled "AI and the New Quality Productive Forces: the 15th Five-Year Plan", offering an in-depth analysis of the profound connection between artificial intelligence development and the 15th Five-Year Plan. He also elucidated the new industrial opportunities brought about by technological transformation for the attendees. Professor Huang Zhuo pointed out that the rapid advancement of AI technology is currently sparking a new technological revolution, deeply permeating all sectors of commerce and industry and driving the restructuring of business models and enhanced operational efficiency. He emphasized that AI has made a significant leap from rule-based and decision-making models to generative models, upgrading from specialized to general-purpose technology. This breakthrough enables AI to transcend scenario limitations, facilitating low-cost, large-scale implementation and injecting new momentum into the development of various industries. Professor Huang also noted that AI technology could present unprecedented opportunities for enterprise development during the 15th Five-Year Plan period. The emergence of AI effectively reduces disparities in individual capabilities. By breaking down talent barriers through technology, it enables the efficient replication of high-quality resources and capabilities. This helps enterprises to reduce operational costs, enhance core competitiveness and better align with the innovation-driven, high-quality development orientation outlined in the 15th Five-Year Plan.
Professor Deng Ziliang, Professor at NSD and Academic Director of the MBA Programme gave a keynote speech entitled "Corporate Global Expansion in the Context of Geopolitics". Based on the development orientation towards high-level opening-up in the 15th Five-Year Plan, Professor Deng systematically analyzed the new opportunities and challenges that enterprises face during global expansion in light of the current complex and volatile international geopolitical landscape. He also proposed targeted strategies to overcome these challenges. He noted that the current global geopolitical landscape is undergoing profound adjustments, with factors such as the restructuring of trade rules and changes in the investment environment presenting multiple challenges for enterprises going global, yet simultaneously fostering new development opportunities. Professor Deng emphasized that enterprises going global have shifted comprehensively from the initial stage of scale expansion to a new stage that prioritizes quality, compliant development and collaborative, win-win outcomes. Enterprises must integrate deeply within industrial chains and operate locally, leveraging artificial intelligence to optimize decision-making and enhance efficiency, thereby achieving long-term strategic positioning. Furthermore, drawing on corporate case studies, Professor Deng provided a detailed analysis of key strategies for enterprises to address geopolitical risks. He recommended that enterprises align closely with national policy directions, treat compliant operations as the cornerstone of their global expansion and utilize AI technology to overcome challenges in cross-border communication, risk assessment and resource integration. This approach will effectively mitigate various challenges, such as cultural differences and legal compliance, and enable enterprises to transition from merely 'going global' to 'operating steadily and sustainably'.
On the day of the public lecture, a round-table discussion was also held, delving deeply into the topic, "Charting the Course for the 15th Five-Year Plan: Activating Hong Kong's Geographical Advantages and New Momentum for Corporate Development". The discussion focused on the transition in development from the 14th Five-Year Plan to the 15th Five-Year Plan, paying particular attention to Hong Kong's unique value and the potential pathways for high-quality corporate development. As an international financial centre, Hong Kong's ability to connect the mainland with the global market gives it a unique advantage, allowing it to build on past achievements while aligning with the development orientation of the 15th Five-Year Plan. The city has demonstrated significant strengths in AI technology applications and corporate global expansion strategies. Guests engaged in in-depth discussions about leveraging Hong Kong's AI industry policies and computing power to support enterprises in their global expansion. These discussions helped to build industry consensus and offered new insights into how to unlock Hong Kong's geographical advantages and promote the coordinated development of enterprises in both regions. This will help enterprises to leverage AI in order to seize the development opportunities presented by the 15th Five-Year Plan and achieve high-quality global expansion.
